RED GUM GULLY BUSHCARE GROUP
Environmental Volunteer Group in Blackwood, South Australia

Red Gum Gully (or Cedar Avenue Reserve as it is officially known) in the Adelaide Hills suburb of Blackwood is a 1-hectare (2.6-acre) City of Mitcham council reserve featuring remnant endemic vegetation and abundant wildlife. The reserve’s winter creek and rather steep slopes dotted with gums make for an inspiring landscape just 25 minutes from Adelaide CBD.
Volunteers meet on the third Sunday of the month (except January) from 9:30am to 11:30am to look after this precious natural resource and enjoy its beauty. Not only do we enjoy bushcare activities, we also enjoy spending time with like-minded people and doing something to help our natural environment and community.

Key objectives of the group include:
-
encouraging regeneration of remnant species through the management of introduced species
-
increasing biodiversity through the planting of local provenance species
-
enhancing wildlife corridors; linking habitats and providing sanctuary, food, water and nesting places for many animals, birds and insects
-
fostering community connection with nature and sharing environmental management knowledge
If you’re interested in volunteering on a one-off or regular basis we’d love you to join us – no experience necessary! Just bring a hat, sunscreen and drinking water (long pants and enclosed shoes please). Children and dogs welcome!
